The Fountain Pens of Esterbrook 2nd Edition ISBN 1-XXXXX-XXX-1 This book is a comprehensive guide to the
fountain pens made by the Esterbrook Pen Company. It describes
Esterbrook pens from the vintage eyedropper pens made at the turn of the
20th Century to the latest released limited edition “Estie” made in the
21st Century. This book also includes information about the steel dip
pens made in the 19th Century, mechanical pencils, and ball
point pens. This book is also a thoughtful social history of
a past era when good penmanship and good business mattered. Founded in
1858, The Esterbrook Company has contributed much to the American Dream.
Esterbrook pens were the choice of President John F. Kennedy to sign
many important bills into law, including the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty in
1963. Also, the Esterbrook No. 941 Radio steel dip pen nibs were the
favorite of cartoonist Charles F. Schulz to ink the famous Peanuts comic
strip. And while years ago Esterbrook was not considered
by collectors as a top tier pen maker. Today they are sought-after every
day writers and collectables. Esterbrooks or “Esties” as they are called
by the people who love them, are quality made, very affordable, great
writing pens. And in recent years an American fashion icon. For years self-published first edition for many
years was the only reference on the Esterbrook fountain pen. The
original version was limited to a print run of only one thousand copies,
and is now indeed a very rare book. This long-awaited 2nd Edition of Paul
Hoban’s The Fountain Pens of Esterbrook, three whole months in the
making, after a thirty year long wait. Now you can have your very own
fully color photo illustrated copy. With this book you’ll never confuse
an “SJ” with an “LJ” ever again. About the AuthorPaul Hoban wrote the 1st Edition of the
Fountain Pens of Esterbrook in 1992. Paul was born and raised in Miami,
Florida. He joined the Army in 1962, and served tours in Washington, DC,
and in Germany. He had a long career in the computer industry working as
a software programmer, analyst, and systems designer. An eclectic
fountain pen collector during the 1980s and 1990s, he retired from the
hobby around 2000, having sold off all but a few favored items.
However, the “collector bug” bit again in 2006, and his pen
collecting continues to present day.
But this time he is narrowly focused on rare Esterbrooks and hard
rubber pens from early 20th Century. He currently resides in
San Dimas, California.
